Had similar scam on daughters computer. Tool it to local computer specialist to clean it from malware. For some reason it did get past Trend security

Definite computer scam - my elderly father got duped by it yesterday with the same thing reported by Paul, to call Microsoft on this number. They made him give remote access to his computer and asked for his Credit Card details. Fortunately got to the bank in time to take care of the Credit card stuff. Just tried calling it again and a male, very Indian-American sounding voice twice said our call was important to them in between awful hold music. More hold music then a female voice of similar origins said goodbye and we were hung up on. Was looking forward to wasting some of their time so they don't dupe others!

Just as I was on a website, an 'error' thing has come up saying to call this number. Eventually, they tried to charge me $450 to fix my computer and apparently give me two years of 'protection'. They even told me I'm "allowed to think about it" and there is no rush for payment", just after telling me to grab the nearest credit card and put its details into the computer. Seems as though the dodgy buggers are getting better at it these days. I was almost convinced
